I read a few books the summer and fall of 2011, and while reading, I made note of sentences I felt were either unique, or meant something especially personal to me. This particular part of the book 'The Great Gatsby' by F. Scott Fitzgerald was an amazing opportunity to create something more visual than just words on a page. Starting with a typographic layout, I overlaid a realistic drawing of a skull to symbolize the turning point in the book and foreshadowing of the next pages. Following that I painted the negative space of dying leaves with two flavors of tea and green paint to hint at both the changing of seasons within the pages of the book and the suggestive narration.
